Professor Judith Parker
Professor Judith Parker was the foundation Professor and Head of the School of Nursing at the University of Melbourne from 1996 to 2004 where she set up higher degree programs and a strong research agenda, post graduate coursework programs in a range of specialities. Before that, she held a similar position at La Trobe University for a number of years. She has been a Visiting Professor at the School of Nursing at The University of Hong Kong for the last 15 years advising on strategic, curriculum and accreditation initiatives at the School of Nursing. She was Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Victoria University for two years and has recently stepped down as Acting Head of the School of Nursing at the University of Hong Kong.
She has held Australian Research Council (ARC) and National Health & Medical Research Council (NH&MRC grants). Professor Parker established and was foundation editor and later editor in chief of the highly regarded international refereed scholarly journal Nursing Inquiry. In 2001 Professor Parker was included on the inaugural Victorian Honour Roll for Women and in 2002 she was made a Member of the General Division of the Order of Australia. In 2006 she was awarded an honorary Doctor of Medicine by the University of Melbourne in recognition of her contribution to nursing scholarship.
